A Peace From The Action (2016) was written for Payton MacDonald's Sonic Divide project. As part of this project, Payton rode a long-distance trip along the United States Continental Divide, braving the elements throughout. Along the way, he stopped to take a break and perform a number of composers' works, most of them commissioned, scored for found sounds, voice, or both. The found sounds may include rocks, logs, leaves, etc. This piece is my contribution. The title itself is a play on the phrase “A piece of the action”, and places grooves normally heard on a drum set in a more meditative context. There is also a vocal part to be performed simultaneously, ideally in the style of an Indian raga. --Travis Salim
