With Long Division, a graphic score for Payton MacDonald, I endeavored to capture the notion of an ongoing process without beginning or end, seemingly still and tranquil, but when zoomed in, reveals a turbulent feedback loop. This feedback loop is a form of chaos generator and serves as the jumping-off point for Payton's vocal extrapolations. The score itself is part of a series begun in 2007 as represented by such pieces as Foliage and Mare Undarum whereby seed material composed in Sibelius is output as graphic files which are then manipulated in Photoshop or GIMP using many of the same processes that I used in live mixing: feedback, inversion, waveform modulation, extreme equalization, layering, and distortion. --Elliott Sharp
